Asking the question, “how long does it take to build muscle” is very much like asking how long is a piece of string? It varies from string to string, much like it varies from person to person. There are a variety of factors that are going to determine whether you are going to put on 10lbs in 10 months or 10lbs in 10 weeks.
How long does it take build muscle genetic dependance
Some people will have greater genetics than others when it comes to the makeup to building a muscly body. If you have struggled with putting on muscle in the past you may have poor genetics. Just because you have poor genetics doesn’t mean you will never put on muscle, you will just have to train and diet differently than someone that does.
Genetics is one of many factors affecting the rate of muscle tissue growth, there are environmental factors such as how much you sleep, your lifestyle e.g. a sedetary job 9 hours a day or hard manual labour. Finally you can’t be forgetting your diet and training program, these two are going to be the biggest influence on whether or not you build muscle at a fast or slow rate.
How long does it take to build muscle at a sustained growth rate
Depending on how long you’ve been lifting muscle will never be built at the same speed. Initially when you start going to the gym you build muscle very rapidly. Your body is great at adapting to the new environmental stresses you put on it and it does this by building muscle mass quickly. This rate soon slows and you have to push yourself harder and harder to get back anywhere near the initial levels.
I am going to assume that people reading this are ectomorphs and have always struggled to build muscle. So I am going to bombard you with information that I learned when I put on 10lb’s of muscle in 6 months. In order to put on muscle quickly you have to be content with putting on some fat as well. You are not going to have shredded abs, this should not be your motive. To put on muscle you have to consume a excess in what your body needs to survive each day. This puts your body in an anabolic state, which is perfect for packing on muscle quickly. How long it takes to build muscle also requires the consumption of really good quality nutrients if you are a hardgainer I suggest checking out my hardgainer diet!
